Your choice

Advertising cookies and analytics cookies are used only after you accept them. Until you accept, no advertisement is requested and neither kind of cookie is set. You can reject them and still use the map. You can change the choice at any time. Rejecting from then on stops those cookies. Clearing site data for traingaze.com removes what this browser stored, including the record of the choice.

Change your cookie choice. This opens the map with the question shown again. The “Cookie choices” link under the map does the same.

Cookies used for advertising

If you accept, advertising partners set cookies to:

Those cookies can recognise this browser on a later visit. The partner receives the connection data of that request, including your IP address. The partner may be outside the European Economic Area. The partners in force are the ones named when you are asked to accept. Lawful basis: consent.

Analytics cookies

If you accept, analytics cookies measure how the site is used, including how an advertisement performed. The service is Google Analytics (cookies named _ga and _ga_…). They are not set if you reject.

Google Analytics then receives the pages you open (a country, a train, a station, a line, a timetable board) and the features you use: which widget you open, when you open search, and which map setting you change and to what. It receives no text you type.

The map asks about analytics itself, in a box at the bottom of the map, on the first visit from any country. Until you accept, Google Analytics is not loaded and receives nothing. Your answer is kept in this browser’s localStorage (traingaze.analytics). Rejecting after an acceptance deletes the _ga cookies and reloads the page.

The question and the record of your choice

The advertising question is asked by Google’s consent tool, Google Privacy & messaging. Google delivers that tool inside its AdSense script, so the map loads the AdSense script before you answer. That request carries the usual connection data, including your IP address, to Google. Loading the script is not a request for an advertisement: the map asks for an advertisement only after you accept. The tool asks visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, and there it stores and reads nothing on your device for advertising until you accept. Where the tool does not ask, no advertisement is requested.

Accept or reject is stored on this device, in a cookie set by that tool (FCCDCF), so the next visit can follow it. That record is not an advertising cookie. It stays until you change the choice or clear site data.

Stored on the device, not a cookie

The page also stores a few choices in this browser’s localStorage. They never leave the device as a cookie, and they are not sent to an advertising partner:

Clearing site data for traingaze.com removes them. The map still works afterwards; it returns to the default layout.

CloudFront’s access log is configured not to record cookies. The privacy policy describes the logs and error reports, which are not cookies.
